Tamil Baby Naming Ceremony

Baby Naming Ceremony is considered a very important ceremony all over the world. It gives the child an identity and identifies the race of the child. In those days people were deeply involved and proud of their culture. They felt that the name of the child should reflect their race.

In ancient Tamil culture, usually the child was named after their grand-parents, mostly as a gesture of respect.  This practice shows the close relationship between the grandchild and grand-parents. Most of the parents also would like to name their baby similar to God (Iraivan) and Goddess(Iraivi) names.

Names of children identified their race, as a tradition. Nowadays, the names do not event show that the child is a Tamils. People are influenced by astrology and numerology thus, the name does not reflect the race or culture. There is a danger that in the coming era, children may completely lose the Tamils identity, if this continues.
